Sean D. Byrne graduated from Radford University with a Bachelor of Science in Sports Medicine in 1995. He then enrolled in the Bronx Lebanon Hospital Center Physician’s Assistant Program from which he graduated in 1999 with distinction. He received the clinical year award at graduation. He is New York State licensed and is a certified Physician’s Assistant (RPA-C).
Sean’s first position as a Physician Assistant was at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine from 1999-2002 during which time he was a National Health Service Corps scholar. He joined the staff at St. Barnabas Hospital in 2002 and continued there until 2003 to administer a federal grant program. He was the primary clinician, as well as the administrator providing primary and specialty care to HIV-positive patients.
Sean joined Riverdale Gastroenterology and Liver Diseases in late 2003. He received specialty training in liver diseases at this practice and is employed as Senior Physician Assistant. He has had six articles and abstracts published (including one in the American Journal of Gastroenterology). Four of the papers were presented at national meetings. He is well versed in general gastroenterology and specializes in viral hepatitis. He speaks extensively on hepatitis B and C to the public as well as to his peers.
Sean has a keen interest in sports as a participant and a spectator. He is a two-time U.S. National Rugby Champion in both rugby union and rugby league. He is married with two lovely daughters.
